You can, but it's a huge pain.

You have to strip the hair that you want highlighted, lighten it (bleach it), and THEN you can dye it blonde

of course!! that's like my main haircolor lol.. actually i've changed it to a littl bit lighter than black now. anyways yes, you can get the color, just make sure to get it done professionally! and tell the stylist you want peekaboo streaks. they look much better, believe me, i've had both ways!! looks so cute! love it

Yeah, it took a looong time though! I'd bleach the areas first to make sure you can get a light enough color. You might even have to do it twice!.

You'd defiantly have to bleach your hair first though to get the purple to actually be noticeable.

Black hair is usually very difficult to bleach. Though natural tends to be easier than black dye.

Beyond the Zone Color Jamz (can be found at Sally's) is the best choice for unnatural hair dye.

I've tried nearly all brands for unnatural colors, and it lasts the longest by FAR. It takes a LOT of shampoos to wash out fully.

Manic Panic has nice color, but fades significantly even with the first shampoo.

i wouldnt do the highlights like normal blonde ones..all over.

I would go more the punkish look ...big streak around the bangs and a couple more throughout going to the back.

A lighter auburn. Depending on how dramatic you want them to be; you could use anything from a very light auburn in larger chunks, to a shade or 2 lighter in fine strands for a more natural look. (Or vice-versa)...That's what i have right now and people compliment my hair often.
