Depending on the overall effect you want, golden to carmel color highlights would do very well on your color hair. If you want something a little (or a lot more) dramatic chunky highlights in the top box section of your hair are really cool looking.

I use Loreal with the brush in highlights, which has always worked well for me. I have dirty blonde hair which I dye blonder and then brush in the highlights with the wand and I'm sure it would work for brown hair too as they have many options (although sorry I'm not sure about lowlights). And pick a friend who is good with hair or it could potentially be a disaster. good luck.

Hey there I am a hairstylist and my advice to you is....... if you like your hair then do not do it yourself! The odds of you getting the color on long and layered hair quickly enough and evenly applied are kinda high. When you go to a salon you are not paying for the color but your paying for our experience and skills. I charge more to fix a messed up color that i do to do that color myself. One more word of advice go to the salons and ask questions in person that way you have a better idea of the work they do and you can see what the are like. Over the phone we all sound like super colorists. Take the time to check out salons in person. If you were in Wisconsin i would be more help. Good luck.

I've always mixed lemon juice and water in a spray bottle. get your hair wet when you are in the sun (at the pool/lake), out in some conditioner and then spray the lemon juice/water mixture through your hair and comb through. The sun activates the lemon juice and it will make your hair lighter. AND it looks natural!

My hair is naturally black and I highlighted it two years ago. This past week I went to a different hair dresser and she used bleach. I went with a caramel brown, but I regret it. When the hairdresser rinsed my hair and I saw the results it looked fine. When she dried my hair the highlights got lighter and lighter. It kind of looks like a dark blonde. It doesn't go well my with skin tone and I was wondering if going back to black would damage my hair. GO TO THE SALON AND HAE A PRO DO IT!!! color (especially the extere dark brown to blondish) have very unpredictable results... i know this, because ive done it and always had to have it corrected by a pro...

as far as someone in la??? well, not sure... ask around or call... ask to speak with the colorist... and when you go, maybe bring a pix... so she is sure, but everytime i go to the pro, now, they get it perfect... and make sure she/he writes down what was done with your hair if your happy with the results...(going to a pro, you will be!!) this way you can get the same results everytime!!! First off to get dark hair a lighter color it has to be bleached out then colored the color you want. If you have damaged hair I would not (as a cosmetologist recommend doing any more damage to it just now.) Give it some time, condition it and go to a professional to get it lightened and high lighted.

Notice that anyone you see on tv with the color hair you are looking for has to wear extensions. You would need a stripper and lots of bleach which would be horrible on your hair. If a stylist would agree to do this to you with your hair being colored too many times they are just after your money. Its not impossible im sure but you will barely be able to run a comb through your hair. By the way look at the color of honey it is orange. You cant prevent someones hair from turning color. Most people dont care enough to use professional products and follow directions. Let your hair grow out natural cut off the color and then go have someone dye your hair. You will be much happier with the results and you will still have hair.

If your problem is that your hair turns orange, you can always get a wash-in wash-out toner like Roux's "Fanci-Full" color styling mouse. This will add colours to your hair to cancel out the reddish hues, without causing any more damage to your hair!

Pretty much all blonde shades will eventually turn more orange and need to be touched-up, by the way. Some more than others of course, but it's a pretty universal issue.

red turns to brown, and colors are heat activated as werid as that sounds, lol in the sun it does seem lighter colors

when you pick out a shade pick one out that is like 2 shades darker than what you want it to be because the sun will make it lighter within 2 weeks.

be sure you condition it, and if it's dye put in some oil.

and get trims quite a while because the bleaching and the dying will bring forth split ends

Your stylist should have washed it after getting your highlights done. You can wash it any time after you get it done. Only with perms you have to wait before washing it, or with red dye since it fades faster.

Well i haven't got any picture to show you but i think you're right by wanting to keep any colour changes as close to your natural hair colour as possible. Only go one or two shades lighter. Another good way to avoid obvious roots is to get thin highlights this makes it look more natural as well as it adds movement to your hair making it look healthy.

You should ask your hairdresser for their opinion as they will be able to tell you exactly what would suit you and be best for you to do.

well... even though what the other person said about being natural and healthy blah blah is all very nice, most people like changing their hair, right? spicing things up? going for a different look. anyways, the way you described your skin tone and eyes, you can pull off a lot of different colors without looking fake. i think you would be able to pull off an strawberry blonde color 100% [as long as your eyebrows aren't too dark].

good highlights would definitely be blond. don't overdo it, use a dirty blond color. don't use too much or it will look too fake. another cool idea would be different shades of brown, especially darker ones. trust me, you'll look great.

Then for the finishing touch spray a shine spray all over.

wash it whenever you wish to. Just make sure you dry it, we to do double the work! It will not do anything to your highlight, your stylist is going to wash it after the service too. We like working on clean hair, and its easier to foil a clean head of hair as oppose to dirty hair.

Yes, and you can do this yourself or have someone help you if you want, go and get a highlighting kit at walmart (Loreal) it has a little brush and instructions on how to mix very easy then after mixing, brush this onto you roots while your hair is dry. Brush on the outside of you hair where you want the highlights to be, start from the root and blend into the the other older highlights, be careful not to get this on too thick, leave this on for thirty minutes then wash your hair and the root problem will be gone and you will probably be able to wait awhile to have you hair done professionally, it will look pretty good. Since your hair is dirty blond anyhow, this will work on your hair great. I hope this helps

They work but make sure you only pull through the amount of hair that you want to have highlighted. If you pull through too much you will have a frosted affect and it might not be what you were going for.

That was the only kit I every used when I highlighted my hair.. I never had any problem with them.. And felt my hair always came out fine... Just make sure that you get someone who has patients to do them and would pull the same amount of hair threw them... And it will be fine...

It's a fairly simple process... you can usually see the hair color changing so you can wash it out when you see what you like! good luck!

I am a hair stylist... I have corrected many clients hair after them using these products at home. The problem with these products... they only high light what you see. If you put it on too thick, you will have skunk stripes. If you don't leave it on long enough your hair could be orange. Even if the product was on the shelf in the store longer then you know the product may have lost its strength. You will not have predictable results. Good luck but i say PUT THE BOX DOWN! :)

last time I got my highlights I thought it should have been more noticeable in the back and when I brought it to their attention was told that they were sorry and would do a better job next time. honey there wont be a next time. you can ask them to try to fix it but the strippers are so harsh on your hair that it may end up making it worse or damaging your hair. considering how quick they grow out I would say just forget about it. Unless its SUPER noticeable in which case you may want to try a different salon to have it fixed.

but the way thats nothing...I usually pay about $210 for cut/wash/full foil highlights. so dont worry you didnt splurge or anything - you paid the average price.

In the UK you are witinh your rights to demand your money back, the shop do not have to give you this if they offer to correct your hair.. If that was me I would go back and say how ppl have commented on your hair, but none were compliments. Hi, I used to do my whole head as soon as my roots started to show, as I used to do it myself I just used to re highlight everything not just my roots and my hair did suffer as it was breaking off snapping etc and my hair went really thin, but I was highlighting it around every 6 weeks not 5 month so you wont notice it damaging you hair, I think you could get away with doing it every 3 month. I found my hightlights used to get really dull even with using blonding shampoos.

If that's what makes you happy, then yeah do it. Don't worry about what your mom thinks, it is not her hair, and she does not wear it on top of her head all day. Go with what you are comfortable and happy with. If you don't end up liking it, you can always do the shaved head look for a while, and that also is popular among rockers. Do it if you want attention, when people do stupid things with their hair i figure they must like to be pointed at and laughed at. Noone with any self respect would be seen with you either, but depending on your age and if your still living with your parents its up to you. If your living with them they should have a say in it. If you don't like that arrangement get a job and leave home and then you can do what you want. Just be aware that doing something like that with your hair limits what kind of job you can have. maybe that's not fair but its life. Get over it.

I would reccomend it, Only if you get metal spikes, Be sure to get a hat with a tall crown, (so the spikes dont rip through the fabric, like through a baseball cap).

Yes its hard to do on your self if you have never done it before. I always recommend for new people do use a highlighting cap to do there highlights that way they are less likely to have tiger spots and bleed spots. Honestly I recommend you go to a salon to get it done. If you don't want to spend a lot of money go to a hair school near by you because those girls and guys actually know what they are doing and have instructors supervising them. I also had a horrible experience at a high-end salon. Someone must have been having a bad day. My hair turned out bold striped orange and black! I had to go back for a correction and it got very damaged bc of all of that. Don't assume a fancy salon will always do the best job.

My daughter does her own with a Revlon kit and when she came to visit last summer, I thought she had a pro do it. It was beautiful. It just depends upon your skill level.

Wash your hair and don't use any product, spray, mousse, gel, NOTHING. No hair products at all, at least 24 hours before having the procedure done. The reason for this is that the natural oils in your hair help the chemicals to work better on your hair, and hair products will create a barrier and keep them from working.

After the procedure wait another 24 hours to wash and style your hair so your hair can have a chance to relax.

Use lots of conditioner and less hot styling with treated hair to prevent damage.

Many kids these days are highlighting/dying their hair these days. I say she is old enough, but I think she should use a product like this stuff called sun-in. It gives your hair more natural high-lights and isn't quite as dangerous as some products out there.

Just lay down rules that you both can live with. For example: You both decide together what kind of highlights she is going to get - before you get to the salon. You be there when she gets it done, to supervise.

Another way to maybe squash the idea - if you really want to - is tell her that you will pay for haircuts, but since it is a luxury that she doesn't really need, she is responsible to pay for it. Or, you can give it to her as a birthday or Christmas present.

The best thing for you to do if you do not want to go back to the salon to complain is give it a couple of days to see if it grows on you. If it doesn't, use a semi-permanent "rinse" that is the same color as your natural hair. It will cover the highlights. I wouldn't suggest permanent color because it can cause serious damage to your hair.

Yes the hair can be dyed back to brown.. You have to be careful in the next few months.. you want to condition as much as possible because hair loss might be the result of all the over bleaching and re- dyeing.

One thing - , Are you of too fair skin. Then go for making the hair brown. Otherwise, it will not highlight you; rather diminish your personality.

It will not be out of place to remember that any kind of bleaching in hair tells upon the stability of hair, which, in the long run, will be brittle and break causing baldness.

If you want to do it yourself you will have to dye it red before you die it brown. If you put brown straight onto it it may go green.

You could try a shader which might tone it down such as Harmoney pearl or ash blond. Get one for a blonde shade.

Also if it is bright it will dull down after a few weeks anyway.

Oh and by the way it will not make you bald if you keep bleaching it that is rubbish. It may go dry and brittle but it will not make you bald.

I once had a major disaster with bleaching my hair, a friend did it for me and my hair ended up white (it started mid-brown!!) no hairdresser would touch it as they said it was far to brittle and if it all broke and fell out I could sue them. Anyway, that's a worst case scenario. I reckon you are pretty safe to dye yours back if you don't like it. Though be sure to choose your original colour carefully and also make sure it's a permanent colour, as any less will not be strong enough and may turn green (happened to me as well!!) as the hair is pourous when bleached and sucks the colour in!

Wouldn't worry about dying/bleaching too much just think how many people get theirs done every 6 weeks!! a couple of times isn't going to do too much damage. plus, darkening hair is adding to it, bleaching is stripping something away so you're really doing your hair a favour if you dye it back!! good luck!

I hate it when people say to not dye your own hair because it never comes out...I've dyed my own hair for over a year and I get complimented on it! You can dye it yourself, just make sure you've got plenty of time to do it...you wouldn't want to be rushed. Follow the directions carefully, and just make sure you soak all of your hair....Or! if you're worried about getting the back as even as the front, ask a friend to help! No biggie. I suggest buying Feria dye or another dye that promises highlights- this will work with your already highlighted hair to give you depth and dimension rather than one, all-over color (that CAN look really fake)

If you don't want to do it yourself, I suggest thinking of a hairstyle that breaks up your part (that is, don't make your part in one, straight line). Go for a zig-zag part or pouf your bangs back with bobbi pins... a broken part makes roots less noticable because you see roots at random intervals instead of just in one place. Good luck!
