Highlighting your hair is fine. It won't cause split ends. If you've dyed your hair about 3 or more times it will dry out your hair.

Just make sure to buy a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner so your hair color won't fade out.

Also don't wash hair everyday, try three times a week.

Deep conditon once a week to restore moisture and shine to your hair.

When highlighting hair, I find it's better to go to a salon to get it done. At home kits tend to have a higher risk of drying hair out, or damaging it. It's also a lot easier to mess up, since you're doing it on your own head. I haven't had a problem with split ends, but if your hair gets dry easily, it could happen .

Either get it done (you'll be more satisfied), or have a trusted family member/friend use moisturizing dye for you.

well ive had highlights for like a year now and i continue to dye it and it doesnt keep my hair from growing or split ends it also depends on ur hair color and the highlight color if ur hair is dark don't get a light color but if u have light hair u can get any color.

Its true that hair color causes harm to Ur hair, as it makes the hair brittle but if you take proper care of Ur hair then u can protect Ur hair up to some extent... so take care.

No, I think you just went to a really bad salon, or the hair stylist was very inexperienced and couldn't get close enough to the root.

No, most salons want you to be satisfied with their work.

They want you to come back because they did a good job.

There could have just been a new person working or something.

That could have been a strategy, but I doubt you will go back so it is unlikely that they did that on purpose.

They could have been a first-timer and not wanted to hurt your roots!

I always hated when they did that to me! When I was blonde I'd always tell the girl to go down AS FAR AS POSSIBLE to my scalp. Even doing this however, yielded poor results. I just started to do it myself, and funny that I was able to get all the way to the scalp with no problems.

My stylist gets it almost all the way to the scapl. They leave a teeny amount that you can't notice to prevent irritation but it sounds like you went to a crappy stylist!

I think it really does depend on the hairdresser and how much attention she's paying to what she's doing.

I got my hair highlighted twice from the same lady: the first time it was great and the front highlights were nice and close to my scalp. The second time she did it the front ones were about 3/4 inch from my scalp in a weird line! It looked awful.

I have learned the key is to make sure you tell the hairdresser to get as close to your scalp as possible. If she knows what your expectations are ahead of time, you'll end up with a better result.

the problem here is that u have a bad hairstylist sweetie... the stylist must get as close as possible to ur scalp without the bleach touching ur scalp due to getting an irritation- other than that ur highlites should still look like new...

I don't think hairstylists do that on purpose. I think the one you went to just didn't know what they were doing. I think they try to do the best job possible so you come back to them. If they did that on purpose they would just be losing business cause their customers wouldn't come back. If I were you I would try a different one. Try one that says color specialists. Tell the new stylist that you have had problems in the past with the highlights being too far away from your scalp

Do you have your reciept? A good salon will not do this. If you have your reciept go back to the salon and ask for a correction or to have some of your money back. Do not use this salon again. yes, but just don't do to many chemical processes to close together...meaning after you do that don't have any other chemical processes for like six months...except for touching up the highlights on new growth (your roots).

F.Y.I. Always perm first then color because the chemical perm solution will alter your color, it usually lightens it.

It will give you highlights and it depends on how much you put on your hair and how long you stay in the sun. Try not to put in on your scalp. I would suggest taking some strands of your hair (works best when you have no products in your hair) and place the lemon juice on those chunks rather than just dipping your hair in it. Keep it separate from the rest of your hair and then rinse. Use a lot of conditioner afterwards to help the hair remoisturize.

You can, but it's a huge pain.

You have to strip the hair that you want highlighted, lighten it (bleach it), and THEN you can dye it blonde

of course!! that's like my main haircolor lol.. actually i've changed it to a littl bit lighter than black now. anyways yes, you can get the color, just make sure to get it done professionally! and tell the stylist you want peekaboo streaks. they look much better, believe me, i've had both ways!! looks so cute! love it

Yeah, it took a looong time though! I'd bleach the areas first to make sure you can get a light enough color. You might even have to do it twice!.
