Your hairstylist may have to do a double process if your hair is really dark. It can be done in one sitting you should not have to go back except to highlight the regrowth. I have dark brown hair with blonde highlights that look great. If you don't have a good stylist, your highlights may turn out red. That means he/she didn't leave the product in long enough. Please use a professional, I tried those kits before and mine turned out orange! :-(

I think you can get in done in one day but your hair will need to be processed 2, maybe even 3 times. Also the strength and quality of the bleach that is used will help contribute to the desired lightness. The idea about doing it every few weeks may also work as well, but I think it can be done in one visit to a good hairdresser.

Ohmygawd. Def. do not get the blonde highlights. My hair is dark brown also %26amp; I did that for like a year my hair ended up all blonde %26amp; it looked really bad. Plus then if you get in the pool or anything the blonde will turn green from the chlorine.

Your best bet is a professional stylist, but if you can't afford it, get Herbal Essences highlight kits. I have really dark hair too and it worked very well on my hair. Its easy too! Have fun!

It will work, but if you haven't done this before, DON'T go overboard. You don't need to highlight it over weeks and weeks. You can do it in one day. It will look more natural the less that you do. If you go overboard, it will look cheap. Get a highlighting kit, and just try a few highlights at first. It is actually easier than the professional hairstylists lead you to believe. But DON'T go overboard!

you have to bleach your hair where you want the highlights but be careful and read bleach directions carefully before applying it. i would even recommend having it professionally done. i think it will look great though. i love black and pink together:]

I really recommend going to a hairdresser.. doing it yourself can be messy and you can probably cover your hair in bleach spots which will be very noticeable =/

I would go to a salon.

But anyway, section out even strands of hair where you want highlights, and brush the bleach on. I would use a 30 or 40 volume developer with the bleach. Use foils so that the bleach does not touch the other hair. After that processes for about 45 minutes, rinse and dry hair.

Then apply pink dye to the bleached streaks. You can use foils again, but pink dye shouldn't do anything to black hair that has not been lightened.

Make sure you condition good too

Go to your local Sally Beauty Supply store get a protein filler nuetral apply this to your hair for 15 minutes towel blot but do not rinse it out. then apply your hair color . always get something with a nuetral base to keep it from pulling red,gold,green.

If this is your first time, go to a professional. She would be able to tell you because there are so many shades of blonde and highlights should be strategically placed to flatter your face. I am not going to suggest a color... because I can't see you or your complexion. I would suggest using 2 or 3 colors if you have blond hair though. Depending on how blonde it is, one color may just make you look a little freakish. But, if you use the brand Chi, you will be happy with our color. First of all, do not wash your hair today, or tomorrow, if you can. It takes a day or two for the color to completely set %26amp; affix itself to your hair. It's ok to gently rinse with warm water, but nothing more.

For your high-lighted hair you should use a shampoo %26amp; confitioner for color treated hair. They will be less likely to fade the color, and many have enhancers, moisturizers, and protectants which will make your hair look great for a longer time.

Lately I've been using Avon, but in the past I used Herbal Essences Color-Me-Happy. I've been very satisfied with both.

My daughter just got her brunette hair highlighted with chunky blonde streaks. We're curious to know what we can and cannot do with her hair now.

Can she go into a pool any time soon? She just got her hair done today - should she wait a few days before going into a pool or is it ok to do it anytime?

Also, does she have to wait before she can wash her hair again (24 hours? 48 hours? No wait at all?)?

Her hair was done by a friend's sister and I'm unable to contact her directly to find out the answers.

If anyone has experience with highlighting hair and can let us know what the "rules" are we'd appreciate it greatly.

Don't use the blondes shampoos and gels. They have dyes in them to make blonde hair have its spunk, but only with haighlights, it would mess it up with the different dyes. Dont wash it to often. But thats all, just like your normal hair.
